Gifted People
Giftedness:
A Gift or a Burden?
As a gifted person, you are different, more intense, and faster than most people around you.
You may notice, for example, that others often see you as "difficult" or as "too much" of something (too energetic, too emotional, too critical, too opinionated, too perfectionistic, too sensitive, and so on). Over time, you may even start to believe that there could be something wrong with you.
Or perhaps you've constantly adapted yourself to fit in. Maybe you have been doing this for so long that you no longer know who you are without your mask, and you no longer feel comfortable being or showing your true self.
If you have few like-minded people around you, giftedness can also feel genuinely lonely. You may miss an intellectual connection with the people around you. Conversations often stay on a superficial level, and you notice that others struggle to follow you because your mind is already ten steps ahead.
If you recognize yourself in these experiences, you are likely to experience your (possible) giftedness more as a burden than as a gift.
However, giftedness can be something truly beautiful and enriching. Once you begin to understand and use your unique gifts, you may discover how enjoyable it is to be who you are, how valuable your gifts can be, and how much you can contribute—not only to the world around you, but also to your own life.
